A cross, heart and anchor rise from the cover of this miniature 15ct Gold book, bringing its Faith, Hope and Charity motif into crisp relief. A curling rope loops around the emblem, while fine edging and engraved details distinguish the overlapping forms. Behind them, a border of flowing loops follows the rectangular cover, giving the small Victorian locket plenty to discover at close quarters.

The book shape continues around the sides, with a rounded hinged spine and fine parallel lines suggesting page edges. On the reverse, another engraved border surrounds a plain central panel. Inside is a rectangular recess opposite a simple inner cover: a quieter contrast to the richly worked front, and the hidden detail that makes this more than a decorative book-shaped pendant.

MEASUREMENTS: Locket measures 18mm long including the jump ring.
Locket measures 13.5mm wide.
WEIGHT: 2.8g.

MATERIALS: Tests as 15ct Gold.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

Condition

EXCELLENT: The raised cross, heart and anchor retain their fine edging and engraved detail. The looping borders remain well defined on both covers. Surface scratches are visible on the plain reverse and inner panels, with darker traces around the raised decoration and hinge.
